FULLNESS of CHRIST

 John 1:16

King James Version

16 And of his fulness have all we received,

and grace for grace.

The Bible speaks of many instances of "fulness".

And that, we shall explore through a series of articles.

In this first part, we focus on the "fullness of CHRIST".

What is this "fulness" we have all "received"?

John 1:16

Wycliffe Bible

16 and of the plenty of him we all have taken, and grace for grace.

To support this verse, Expanded Bible referred us to a previous verse:

John 1:14

King James Version

14 And the Word was made flesh,

and dwelt among us,

(and we beheld his glory,

the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,)

 full of grace and truth.

We include another, after the 16th verse:

John 1:17

17 For the law was given by Moses,

but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.

TIME of VISITATION

Luke 19:44

King James Version

44 And shall lay thee even with the ground,

and thy children within thee;

and they shall not leave in thee one stone upon another;

because thou knewest not

the time of thy visitation.

JERUSALEM was once destroyed in 70 A.D.

That's why JESUS wept, as He prophesied about it.

He knew what would happen, and why it had to.

To understand that, we look to other Bible versions.

That we may comprehend what JESUS meant when He said, "thou knewest not the time of thy visitation".

Luke 19:44

Amplified Bible

44 and they will level you to the ground, you [Jerusalem] and your children within you. They will not leave in you one stone on another, all because you did not [come progressively to] recognize [from observation and personal experience] the time of your visitation [when God was gracious toward you and offered you salvation].”

Luke 19:44

Amplified Bible, Classic Edition

44 And they will dash you down to the ground, you [Jerusalem] and your children within you; and they will not leave in you one stone upon another, [all] because you did not come progressively to recognize and know and understand [from observation and experience] the time of your visitation [that is, when God was visiting you, the time [a]in which God showed Himself gracious toward you and offered you salvation through Christ].

Luke 19:44

44 and dash you to the ground, you and your children within your walls, leaving not one stone standing on another — and all because you did not recognize your opportunity when God offered it!”

Luke 19:44

Luke 19:44

Easy-to-Read Version

44 They will destroy you and all your people. Not one stone of your buildings will stay on top of another. All this will happen because you did not know the time when God came to save you.”

Luke 19:44

Evangelical Heritage Version

44 Within your walls, they will dash you and your children to the ground. And within your walls, they will not leave one stone on top of another, because you did not recognize the time when God came to help you.

Luke 19:44

Expanded Bible

44 They will ·destroy you [level you; smash you to the ground] and all your ·people [L children within your walls], and not one stone will be left on another. All this will happen because you did not recognize the time ·when God came to save you [L of your visitation; C the failure to recognize God’s “visit” in Jesus (see 1:68, 78) will result in a divine “visit” in judgment].”

Luke 19:44

International Standard Version

44 They will level you to the ground—you and those who live[a] within your city limits.[b] They will not leave one stone on another within your walls,[c] because you didn’t recognize the time when you were visited.

Luke 19:44

J.B. Phillips New Testament

The sight of the city moves him to tears

44 The time is coming when your enemies will encircle you with ramparts, surrounding you and hemming you in on every side. And they will hurl you and all your children to the ground—yes, they will not leave you one stone standing upon another—all because you did not know when God Himself was visiting you!”

Luke 19:44

Living Bible

44 and crush you to the ground, and your children within you; your enemies will not leave one stone upon another—for you have rejected the opportunity God offered you.”

New Testament for Everyone

44 They will bring you crashing to the ground, you and your children within you. They won’t leave one single stone on another, because you didn’t know the moment when God was visiting you.”

Lukas 19:44

Orthodox Jewish Bible

44 And they will dash you to the ground, you and your yeladim with you. And they will not leave an even (stone) upon an even (stone) within you, because you did not have daas of the zman (time) of your YOM PEKUDDAH (visitation, reckoning [YESHAYAH 10:3]).

Luke 19:44

The Voice

44 Your enemies will smash you into rubble and not leave one stone standing on another, and they will cut your children down too, because you did not recognize the day when God’s Anointed One visited you.

you did not have daas of the zman (time) of your YOM PEKUDDAH (visitation, reckoning [YESHAYAH 10:3])

you did not recognize the day when God’s Anointed One visited you

That visitation was prophesied by Zacharias, as he named his son, John.

Who was also called John the Baptist.

For his son was to prepare the way for the LORD.

Let these verses tell you more:

Luke 1:67-79

King James Version

67 And his father Zacharias was filled with the Holy Ghost,

and prophesied, saying,

68 Blessed be the Lord God of Israel;

for he hath visited and redeemed his people,

69 And hath raised up an horn of salvation for us

in the house of his servant David;

70 As he spake by the mouth of his holy prophets,

which have been since the world began:

71 That we should be saved from our enemies,

and from the hand of all that hate us;

72 To perform the mercy promised to our fathers,

and to remember his holy covenant;

73 The oath which he sware to our father Abraham,

74 That he would grant unto us,

that we being delivered out of the hand of our enemies

might serve him without fear,

75 In holiness and righteousness before him,

all the days of our life.

76 And thou, child,

shalt be called the prophet of the Highest:

for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord

to prepare his ways;

77 To give knowledge of salvation unto his people

by the remission of their sins,

78 Through the tender mercy of our God;

whereby the dayspring from on high hath visited us,

79 To give light to them that sit in darkness

and in the shadow of death,

to guide our feet into the way of peace.

UNCTION from the HOLY ONE

 1 John 2:20

King James Version

20 But ye have an unction from the Holy One,

and ye know all things.

What does "unction" mean?

Who is the "Holy One"?

The only time I heard about "unction" was when they taught us in Catholic school about "Extreme Unction".

I understood that to be the last rites, the last sacrament, or the "final anointing".

Reserved for those who lay dying, or were in danger of death.

Now that GOD made me born again, SPIRIT takes my learning to a different level.

When I need to understand more, I also turn to the Expanded Bible:

1 John 2:20

Expanded Bible

20 You have the ·gift [L anointing; C probably the Holy Spirit and/or the spiritual gift of the Word of God applied to their hearts; v. 24; 1 Sam. 16:13; Is. 61:1; John 16:13; 2 Cor. 1:21–22] that the Holy One gave you [L from the Holy One; C a reference to God the Father (Ps. 71:22) or more likely Jesus Christ (Mark 1:24; John 6:69)], so you all ·know the truth[a] [or have knowledge; L know].

I then learn that "unction" also refers to "gift" or "anointing".

These verses were supplied by the Expanded Bible:

1 Samuel 16:13

King James Version

13 Then Samuel took the horn of oil,

and anointed him in the midst of his brethren:

and the Spirit of the Lord came upon David

from that day forward.

So Samuel rose up, and went to Ramah.

Isaiah 61:1-3

King James Version

61 The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me;

because the Lord hath anointed me

to preach good tidings unto the meek;

he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,

to proclaim liberty to the captives,

and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;

2 To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord,

and the day of vengeance of our God;

to comfort all that mourn;

3 To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion,

to give unto them beauty for ashes,

the oil of joy for mourning,

the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness;

that they might be called trees of righteousness,

the planting of the Lord,

that he might be glorified.

John 16:13

King James Version

13 Howbeit when he,

the Spirit of truth, is come,

he will guide you into all truth:

for he shall not speak of himself;

but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak:

and he will shew you things to come.

2 Corinthians 1:21-22

King James Version

21 Now he which stablisheth us with you in Christ,

and hath anointed us, is God;

22 Who hath also sealed us,

and given the earnest of the Spirit

in our hearts.

We also hasten to add:

1 John 2:27

King James Version

27 But the anointing

which ye have received of him abideth in you,

and ye need not that any man teach you:

but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things,

and is truth, and is no lie,

and even as it hath taught you,

ye shall abide in him.

By the "Holy One", Expanded Bible refers us to these verses:

Psalm 71:22

King James Version

22 I will also praise thee with the psaltery,

even thy truth, O my God:

unto thee will I sing with the harp,

O thou Holy One of Israel.

Mark 1:24

King James Version

24 Saying, Let us alone;

what have we to do with thee,

thou Jesus of Nazareth?

art thou come to destroy us?

I know thee who thou art,

the Holy One of God.

John 6:69

King James Version

69 And we believe and are sure

that thou art that Christ,

the Son of the living God.

Isn't this a wonderful way of understanding Bible verses?

Even just to expand our thinking.

And making sure we get the Word right.

Check other Bible versions, too.

As we have been doing here.

After a prayer, we say "Amen".

But do we really know what it means?

Do we know the power in it?

In SUMMARY, we learn these things:

"Amen" is Hebrew for "so be it".

JESUS is "The Amen".

He is that "faithful witness":

Revelation 1:5

King James Version

5 And from Jesus Christ,

who is the faithful witness,

and the first begotten of the dead,

and the prince of the kings of the earth.

Unto him that loved us,

and washed us from our sins

in his own blood,

We also learn about JESUS, "The Amen", and His power:

the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God

the Amen, the trusted and faithful and true Witness, the [b]Beginning and Origin of God’s creation

the Amen, the trusty and faithful and true Witness, the Origin and Beginning and Author of God’s creation

the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the Ruler of God’s creation

the Amen,[a] the faithful and true witness, the ruler of all that God has made

The Amen [C Hebrew for “so be it”; here referring to Jesus]*, the faithful and true witness, ·the ruler of all God has made [1:5; Prov. 8:30–31; C the resurrected Jesus], says this [L these things]

The amen, the witness who is faithful and true, the source of God’s creation, says

the Amen, the faithful and true witness, who is the origin[a] of all that God has created

The Amen, the faithful and true Witness, the Originator[a] of God’s creation

The Amen[a] is the One who is the faithful and true witness. He is the ruler of all that God has made

the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of God’s creation

from the one who stands firm,[a] the faithful and true Witness of all that is or was or evermore shall be, the primeval source of God’s creation

God’s Yes, the Faithful and Accurate Witness, the First of God’s creation

The Amen,[a] the faithful and true witness, the ruler of all God has made

Jesus, who is the Amen. What he speaks is faithful and true. He rules over what God has created

The One Who says, Let it be so, the One Who is faithful, the One Who tells what is true, the One Who made everything in God’s world

the Omein, the Ed HaNe’eman (the Faithful Witness) who is also HaEmes, the Reshit of the Bri’at Hashem

the Amen, the Faithful and True Witness, the Originator of God’s creation

the one whose name is Truth. What he says can be trusted. He is the one who began all that God made

the Amen, the witness -- the faithful and true -- the chief of the creation of God

NOW, everytime we say "Amen" after a prayer, we know it's JESUS we are referring to.

That, through His Name, His Power, it becomes "so be it".

Never shall we take "AMEN" for granted again.

With every "Amen", we are treading sacred ground.

This time, we say it reverently.

All these, SPIRIT taught me.

NOTE: SPIRIT first alerted me to "The Amen" being a person when we wrote this post in 2021. Now, we know for sure Who He Really Is.
